“I was born and raised in Monticello, Utah.  I wanted to be a doctor ever since I was 10 years old. After graduating with a bachelors degree in chemistry from Brigham Young University, I went to the University of Utah school of medicine. In 1984 I started my training at Duke University. I had a wonderful eight years of training, including my internal medicine residency, general cardiology fellowship, and interventional cardiology fellowship. In 1992, I left Duke University and went to Salt Lake City to work at Intermountain healthcare with an academic appointment at the University of Utah. I have enjoyed my career which includes both clinical care and research.  Throughout my nearly 22 years at Intermountain healthcare, I have maintained a strong relationship with the DUCCS program.  This relationship has facilitated many of my successes in my own institution.  Along the way, I married a wonderful woman named Elaine, and we have 11 children and 11 grandchildren. We hope to have many more grandchildren in the future.  I look forward to the opportunity to act as the president of DUCCS for the next few years and I will do my best to strengthen this wonderful organization as we all move into the modern new world of healthcare in the 21st-century.”
